Memorial Day Car Crashes Responsible For Seven Georgia Deaths

Memorial Day is a time to remember those men and women who died in service to our country.  A somber celebration, it can also be a dangerous time for car accidents with many families on the highway. Unfortunately, this Memorial Day weekend took the lives of seven Georgia residents.

Georgia Department Of Public Safety Reports nearly 500 Car Crashes

According to The Telegraph, Georgia State troopers investigated 490 car, truck and motorcycle crashes that caused 258 injuries and seven fatalities during the Memorial Day weekend. The fatal accidents occurred in Brunswick, Thomasville, Reidsville, Milledgeville, Washington and Fulton County.

Georgia State Police Col. Mark McDonough had said that state troopers would increase their patrols to look for seat belt violations, impaired drivers and other offenses during the holiday weekend – and they did just that.

Although there were more actual crashes (up from 326 reported in 2012), the number of overall injuries decreased (down from 278 reported in 2012).  One additional car accident fatality was reported this year (6 reported in 2012).
